- Sandro Tonali has been linked with Man City
- There are no reports of an official bid
- The midfielder’s preference has been revealed
News has emerged as to whether Sandro Tonali is interested in joining Manchester City this summer.
Man City have some areas of their squad to fill this summer, and finding a new midfielder appears to be a key priority.
Bernardo Silva is on his way to Real Madrid, and none of the club’s recent signings such as Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders have made the impact they were hoping for.
Elliot Anderson is clearly City’s primary choice, but there have been reports suggesting Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali could be approached as well.
Sandro Tonali is open to a Man City move
According to The Telegraph, Sandro Tonali viewed Man City and Arsenal as ‘desirable destinations’ when talks first commenced with his representatives.
Therefore, the Citizens have the option to actively pursue the midfielder, who will not be sold for under £100m.
However, Tottenham Hotspur have now been encouraged to compete for Tonali, with Roberto De Zerbi keen on the 26-year-old.
Signing both midfielders might be too expensive
If Man City successfully manage to sign Anderson from Nottingham Forest, they will already have spent £130m on one individual.
So there would need to be very strong interest in Tonali to justify parting ways with another £100m for a player who occupies the same position.
With other needs which need addressing in the City squad, it could be that signing Tonali as well as Anderson is considered too expensive.
Man City only need one more central player
Unless one of Gonzalez, Reijnders or Mateo Kovacic leaves Man City, there is not a great need for them to be signing more than more midfielder.
Rodri looks set to remain at the club, so he and Anderson can start, with a more attacking player like Rayan Cherki playing behind the striker.
This means the Sky Blues can focus on investing in a new right-back, as well as a wing replacement for Savinho.
