City agree fee for Marlos Moreno

Manchester City look to be closing in on their second signing of the Pep Guardiola era, after the Daily Mail reported they had reached an £8 million agreement with Colombian club Atletico Nacional for 19-year-old Marlos Moreno.

The young midfielder is tipped as one of South America’s hottest products in recent years, and has been chased by a number of clubs, including The Blues’ Manchester rivals. However, following talks between City and the Colombian club, it looks like a deal for Moreno is edging close to completion.

Should he sign, Moreno is likely to be loaned out to La Liga for a year rather than being thrown directly in Pep Guardiola’s rejuvenated squad. This would allow him to gain some valuable experience of the European game, before returning to England to start his time in sky blue.

The 19-year-old midfielder has made 27 appearances for Atletico Nacional in the past three seasons, since he made his debut. However, his performances for the Medellin-based side have earned him call-ups to the Colombian national side, including being taken to this year’s Copa America in the United States. He made four appearances at the tournament, netting once.

As well as City, Benfica and Manchester United are also reportedly interested, whilst Nacional rejected an approach from Jorge Jesus’ Sporting Lisbon earlier in the window. He is now likely to become the second City signing of the summer, following Ilkay Gundogan into the CFA door.
