Manchester City keen to land Sporting youngster Rafael Leao

Premier League leaders Manchester City have shown a strong interest in Sporting CP attacker Rafael Leao, according to the Daily Mail.

The 18-year-old has only recently got into the Sporting side but has impressed Manchester City after a string of fine performances this season.

A number of clubs around the continent have shown a strong interest in the player. He featured in his side’s most recent game in a 2-0 win over Feirense at the weekend.

The player has been at the club since the age of nine and was, a couple of months ago, offered a new improved contract. Leao is a current Portugal Under-21 international.

He plays in the left wing position and has had quite an impact this season, largely for the club’s reserve side. He’s netted 11 goals in 17 games, which has caught the eye of the first-team staff at the club.

City will likely monitor his progress as the season continues.
