Guardiola wanted Reus

German publication SportBild have claimed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had been keen to lure Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus to the club this summer, Sport Witness reports.

SportBild have stated that Manchester City had great interest in signing the Dortmund player this year and that they made sure he knew about it. However City’s efforts came to nothing.

It is stated that Guardiola tried to convince City owner Sheikh Mansour to make a formal offer for Reus earlier in the year.

However, the German attacking midfielder extended his contract with Dortmund back in March until June 2023 and City opted against any such bid.

Reus has been at Dortmund since 2012 but has been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League.
