Antoine Semenyo makes ‘celebrations’ admission ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Semenyo scored FA Cup final winner
  • Man City star looking ahead already
  • Bournemouth clash now takes focus

Antoine Semenyo had every reason to enjoy his Wembley moment, but the Manchester City forward has already turned his attention to the Premier League title race.

Semenyo’s decisive contribution against Chelsea has instantly made him part of Man City’s FA Cup history.

For a player who only arrived from Bournemouth in January, it was a major personal moment as well as another collective achievement for Guardiola’s squad.

However, the Citizens’ season isn’t finished yet. With two Premier League games still to play, Semenyo’s post-match message quickly shifted the focus from the celebrations.

Antoine Semenyo turns focus to Bournemouth after FA Cup win

Speaking after the FA Cup final, Semenyo admitted that scoring the winner at Wembley felt surreal. The winger flicked the ball with his back heel following a cut-back from Erling Haaland to score the winner.

The 26-year-old explained that this instinctive finish was a practised move during training, resulting in a perfect execution at Wembley.

Regardless, despite enjoying the biggest moment of his City career so far, Semenyo was quick to look ahead to the upcoming Bournemouth clash.

“I don’t think there will be much celebrations tonight, it’s about getting ready for Tuesday. Just train the same way, and hopefully results fall in our hands. So we just have to pray it happens,” Semenyo told the official Man City website.

He added, “I’m enjoying every day and enjoying all these trophies. Hopefully, we can finish off the job by the end of the season.”

Semenyo’s restraint says plenty about City’s title-race mindset

Despite having every reason to celebrate, Man City seem focused on the next prize. They have already won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup this season.

However, the Premier League remains within reach, only if Arsenal manage to slip their way to the end. The Gunners have a history of falling under pressure in decisive moments.

Regardless, City can’t control their rivals’ performance directly, but they can still do their job. To have the best chance at winning the title, Guardiola’s men will have to win the next two games by scoring as many goals as possible.

They also can’t concede much, as the GF gap is wide, but the GD gap isn’t big enough. Nevertheless, the FA Cup winners are in a strong form, and they will be hoping to keep the pressure on Mikel Arteta.

Semenyo gives City another route to goal

With two goals in two consecutive games, Semenyo will be expected to continue finding the back of the net in the upcoming clashes.

If Arsenal draw one and win the other, City can still catch up with two wins. However, the GD remains tight amongst the rivals.

Guardiola’s side have to remain on equal terms on GD if they want to win the Premier League title. They have scored more goals than Arsenal, and the Gunners closing that gap at this stage is unlikely.

Overall, the Sky Blues have scored 12 goals in their last five games and with Semenyo back in business, keeping pressure seems like an easier job now.
