Pep Guardiola’s final appearance in front of the media as Manchester City manager brought one last opportunity for the Catalan to show the personality which accompanied his decade at the Etihad.

Across his time in Manchester, Guardiola’s exchanges with the reporters were sharp, sarcastic and unexpectedly light-hearted.

However, with his final game now completed, the 55-year-old had one last chance to address the journalists in sky blue.

Likewise, the Catalan manager didn’t hold back as he showed wit after the last question was asked by the journalists.

Guardiola completed his final post-match conference as City manager following the defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

After answering the last question, the outgoing boss invited the journalists in attendance to mark the end of his remarkable spell at the club.

“Is that the last question? Thank you so much, guys! Now you can clap me! All the best, guys! With everything! Ciao!” Guardiola said.

It was his final exchange after an emotional afternoon as Guardiola received a major ovation from the Etihad crowd.

When journalists applauded him following his final pre-match press conference on Friday, the Catalan told them not to clap for him now.

Instead, Guardiola told them to clap for him on Sunday after the game against Aston Villa. Likewise, he followed up with the running joke after the showdown.

It was a fitting farewell message from the gaffer as he set up a joke before his final day as the manager, just like he did with games.

Likewise, Guardiola’s influence at Man City wasn’t restricted to the tactical work during the matches, as he also dictated the image of the club.

Even in press conferences, the Catalan gaffer regularly commanded the tone of the conversation. The media room could have become another uncomfortable setting after a demanding afternoon.

However, Guardiola ensured his final media duties ended on his own terms as he turned an emotional goodbye into one last light-hearted moment.
