- Pep Guardiola has ended his historic Man City tenure
- The Catalan is expected to take a break from management
- A report has revealed one future role that appeals to him
Pep Guardiola may have stepped away from the Man City dugout, but speculation over his next challenge is already gathering pace.
Guardiola spent his final weeks at Man City facing constant questions over whether his work in elite-level management was coming to an end.
The Catalan has managed continuously at FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Man City since 2008. However, one major area of football remains absent from his remarkable CV.
Guardiola has refused to commit himself to any future return to the dugout. However, a fresh report has now indicated the challenge that could appeal to him.
Pep Guardiola reportedly interested in England role
According to Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan, Guardiola has previously indicated that he would be interested in managing England.
Gaughan told Sky Sports that the former City boss had told his friends that he “would fancy” an England job.
The report comes shortly after Guardiola was directly asked about the prospects of managing the Three Lions before his final game in charge of City.
The manager ended up refusing to outline a definite plan. Nevertheless, Guardiola has never hidden his desire to experience international football in the past.
England move would not be immediate for Guardiola
Any potential move to England would seemingly be a long-term possibility rather than Guardiola’s immediate next step.
Thomas Tuchel signed a new contract with the Three Lions in February, keeping him in charge through to Euro 2028.
Likewise, Guardiola has repeatedly stated that he needs time away from management after almost two decades of continuous work at the highest level.
England job could preserve Pep Guardiola’s Man City legacy
A move to international management would also allow Guardiola to avoid an uncomfortable return to the Etihad with another club.
After spending a decade shaping Man City into a dominant force in English football, taking charge of a Premier League rival would inevitably create tension with the supporters.
However, the England role would allow him to remain connected to the country where he enjoyed the greatest period of his managerial career without directly competing against City.
