Manchester City are always on the lookout for the next big thing in European football, and it appears the Etihad hierarchy have identified another potential star to add to their ranks.

With the Citizens constantly looking to evolve, securing young, high-potential talent has become a cornerstone of the long-term strategy in East Manchester.

Reports now suggest that City have joined a high-stakes race for one of the most exciting teenagers in world football.

However, the Sky Blues are far from alone in their pursuit, as several European giants are beginning to circle the player.

Manchester City have held talks for Yan Diomande

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Man City and PSG have already held talks with RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande.

However, Liverpool are pushing to find a quick agreement to bring him to Anfield, with the Merseyside club eager to get ahead of the competition.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig are not prepared to let their winger leave without a fight. The German outfit are still actively working to extend Diomande’s contract.

Leipzig plan to offer a significantly improved salary package to convince the player to stay at the Red Bull Arena.

City face a tough battle to land the Bundesliga starlet

The involvement of Liverpool and PSG makes this a complicated deal to navigate. With the Reds pushing for a quick agreement, City are waiting to pounce at the right moment.

However, much now depends on the player as Diomande continues receiving interest from all sides. The winger’s current contract runs until 2030, so there is no pressure on Leipzig.

However, bigger salary packages from Liverpool, PSG or Man City could sway the player. Likewise, the German side are working on that aspect of the deal and hoping that Diomande decides to stay after a salary bump.

City may have one reason to wait in Diomande chase

While Liverpool’s push could force the pace of the race, City’s interest may also be shaped by a future possibility.

Leipzig’s plan to improve Diomande’s contract could make a summer deal more difficult in the short term. However, it could create a route further down the line.

If the German side end up including a release clause in the new agreement, City could have the upper hand in the deal.

The World Cup adds another constraint as the tournament could push his price even higher, especially when Leipzig already have no urgent need to sell.
