- Pep Guardiola has only just left the Etihad
- Man City are already preparing for a new era
- New claim has now raised a future possibility
Pep Guardiola has only just walked away from Manchester City, but one future possibility has already been raised around the Catalan.
Guardiola’s decade at the Etihad completely changed the club. Likewise, his departure has naturally created major questions around what’s to come.
City are expected to move forward with the Catalan manager’s former disciple Enzo Maresca. However, an official announcement is yet to be made, but multiple credible sources suggest the Italian’s appointment.
Regardless, it is no secret that the fans would like to see Guardiola at the Etihad once again. Likewise, a former Man City adviser has suggested that the gaffer’s return cannot be ruled out.
Pep Guardiola return claim emerges after Man City exit
According to Football Insider, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson has claimed that Guardiola returning to the Etihad in the future isn’t a far-fetched dream.
Borson suggests that Guardiola is likely to need time away from club football after his demanding spell in Manchester.
“I also don’t think it’s impossible if he ended up, depending on how things pan out, back at Man City at some point. It wouldn’t shock me. I think he just needs a break,” Borson told Football Insider.
Guardiola’s bond with the club remains a strong reason to return, with the gaffer spending a decade at the Etihad.
The Catalan won 20 major trophies during his time in Manchester, including six Premier League titles, the Champions League and the 2022/23 Treble.
Guardiola’s CFG role keeps him close
Man City have already confirmed that Guardiola will become the global ambassador for City Football Group (CFG).
The role includes technical advice to clubs across the group and working on specific projects and collaborations.
While it keeps Guardiola close to the wider structure of CFG, it doesn’t put him back in charge of the first team.
However, the gaffer’s continued relationship with the group makes a future return easier while he remains involved with the Sky Blues.
International management may delay any Man City return
Guardiola has dominated Spain, Germany and England, but he has never managed a national team. Likewise, the gaffer has already admitted that he would like to experience a World Cup or European Championship from the dugout.
The Catalan manager has also mentioned the England job that could appeal to him. Borson himself suggested that club football looks less likely for Guardiola.
Italy also remain contenders, with the national team yet to appoint a new permanent manager. FIGC is expected to hire after late June, following the presidential election.
Guardiola might very well be on FIGC’s list of possible candidates. However, the former FC Barcelona gaffer might not be keen on an instant return to football management.
